"Failed plans should not be interpreted as a failed vision. Visions don't change, they are only refined. Plans rarely stay the same, and are scrapped or adjusted as needed. Be stubborn about the vision, and flexible with your plan." ~John C. Maxwell
In the past year, Eric & I have made and subsequently changed zillions of plans. We’d get excited about something, make plans to move us in that direction, and then we’d come up with an idea that felt more exciting for us, so we’ve pivot our plans to move in the new direction. Since we were checking-in and re-evaluating our choices on at least a weekly basis, our plans changed nearly that often.
But here’s the thing...the thing that I, as a recovering neurotic-over-planner, didn’t even know was possible: changing our plans on a nearly weekly basis now actually feels MORE freeing & fulfilling than not changing them.
As we are figuring out how we want to live our lives, both as individuals and as a team, we’re reflecting, learning, and growing on a daily basis. We therefore aren’t locking ourselves into plans just because we made them in the past. Instead, we are consistently checking-in to make sure we still want to keep our plans with each new day.
Plan. Check-in. Pivot if necessary. Repeat.
In an awesome conversation last week, my uncle sweetly acknowledged E's & my ability to make “mid-flight adjustments.” Changing our course whenever our current flight plan stops working for us. I loved that!! Thanks, Michey. :)
E & I are crystal clear in our vision & values, so despite changing our plans on a daily/weekly/monthly basis...we’re always making progress, no matter how small. And most importantly...we are loving it. LOVING IT!
We’ve encountered people who don’t understand why we’re doing what we’re doing: homeless by choice, living out of suitcases, staying at other people’s houses, not knowing where we’ll be or what we’ll be doing a few months from now. And I fully understand their lack of understanding...we’ve strayed prettttttty far from the beaten path.
But in straying as we have, we’ve discovered our true path to joy & fulfillment: living our lives from our hearts.
And I wouldn't have it any other way. :)
Thanks to everyone who’s supporting us [and housing us!!] as we make our heart-fueled journey through life. I’ll post an update on our current plans soon! [hint: they include a cruise in the Caribbean, then traveling to England, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and Greece!]
